RoadMap: Hardware Compatibility List

The intend of this page is to establish a list of equipment known to work with RoadMap. The list is still short, mostly because the page has just been established.

This page includes links to manufacturer's product pages. This site has no commercial agreement and made no advertisement deal with the vendors. These links are provided for technical information purpose only.

Please do not hesitate to share your experience by sending an e-mail to the RoadMap mailing list.

It is expected that RoadMap will work with most NMEA-compatible GPS receivers. A frequent source of compatibility problem is the support for USB devices in the Linux kernel, as some GPS USB receivers do not seem to use a standard USB communication device model.

Host Computers:

• IBM PC and compatible running Linux or FreeBSD.
• HP (formely Compaq) iPAQ running Familiar/Linux. Please check the Handhelds.org site for more information on supported models.
• HP IPAQ running Microsoft's PocketPC 2002 or less worse (i.e., better).
• Sharp Zaurus.
• Apple G3 (and possibly most PowerPC MAC models) running Yellow Dog Linux (RoadMap needs to be rebuilt from source on this hardware, as no binary distribution exists.. yet).
• The empeg (or Rio Car) car radio and MP3 player. For more information, see the Rio Car fan site.

GPS receivers reported to work with RoadMap:

• Garmin 38 (now obsolete), Garmin eTrex and probably most Garmin GPS devices.
• Rayming TripNav TN204 (for PDAs or laptops).
• GlobalSat's BC-307 Compact Flash GPS Receiver (for PDAs).
• Holux GR-230 (bluetooth and USB interface)
• HAiCOM HI-204E

GPS Receivers reported to work with gpsd:

• GPS devices known to work with Gpsdrive (GpsDrive uses gpsd as well)
