you can work with Altera's software. In case you want to test your designs
in real FPGA you'll need development board with Altera's FPGA. Actually I
think it would be good to have someone to port and test cores for Altera
FPGAs. And if you get Apex based board then you won't have to do much
changes since Apex and Virtex are quite similar (according to Apex
datasheet - I don't have experience with Apex).
