Oh! Another linux PDA fan? I run linux on the Compaq Ipaq, of course and
use regularly a command like yours.

The pppd daemon is the same and very old. Some options are now different.

In mulinux you can play with these options: passive, persist, detach.
Maybe, you are searching for "-detach" (now called "nodetach").

Many noOPTION are, in the mu pppd, -OPTION, be aware.
Try adding "-nodetach persist".
