Shape Operators  of Orbits of Isotropy Subgroups

Abstract
In the present paper orbits of isotropy
subgroups are discussed in symmetric spaces of the compact
type. Shape operators of the orbits are described by using
the root space decompositions of orthogonal symmetric Lie
algebras. Furthermore, some properties of totally
geodesic orbits are established.
