Welcome!

The GNU Head

GNU Parted is an industrial-strength package for creating, destroying, resizing, checking and copying partitions, and the file systems on them. This is useful for creating space for new operating systems, reorganising disk usage, copying data on hard disks and disk imaging.

It contains a library, libparted, and a command-line frontend, parted, which also serves as a sample implementation and script backend.

Getting Around

If you are a new user, you may want to check out the features of GNU Parted to see what it offers you what other tools do not.

Since GNU Parted comes with a library, you can also take advantage of other projects using libparted.

It is highly probable that GNU Parted is available as a package for your particular distribution of GNU/Linux, and FreeBSD should have a package in its ports collection, too. Should you however need to get the source code to hack it or just to use the latest version, please see the Downloads Section for more information.

Developers should see the information on contributing, and users who found a bug may want to report it.
